Safety Manager
This well-established manufacturer is expanding their EHS team and is looking for a Safety Manager to join their team!
This position will be based out of our
Columbus, Ohio
plant.
Responsibilities will include supporting our Columbus, Ohio and
Detroit, Michigan
locations.
Travel to Michigan is planned to be approximately
10% percent with the potential to be up to 15% plus
of time dependent upon the needs of the business. Flexibility is a must as these travel estimates may vary to support new business and capital projects.
Will oversee and ensure a safe working environment within our chemical manufacturing facilities. This will be done by supporting the facilities in the areas of safety, regulatory compliance, industrial hygiene, environmental protection, security, fire protection, and ergonomics.
The Safety Manager reports to the EHS Manager and works directly with department heads and all other associates to coordinate safety-related functions. This safety Manager will be responsible for managing health and safety compliance programs, implementing industry regulations, conducting audits, and developing strategies to mitigate risks associated with handling hazardous chemicals.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulations
Carry out regular audits and inspections to assess safety risks and identify areas for improvement
Develop and coordinate strategies and trainings to ensure all associates achieve a thorough understanding and adherence to safety protocols
Conduct investigations into all safety incidents, ensure proper notification process is followed, provide analysis on root cause, and work with site management on corrective action
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess potential hazards and develop strategies to minimize risks associated with chemical handling
Keep abreast of industry trends, updates in safety regulations, and best practices, integrating them into existing safety protocols
Assist in the management of the Process Safety Management Program
Support the EHS department’s projects and tasks

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, preferably with PSM covered chemicals
In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards related to chemical manufacturing
Proven experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and implementing corrective actions
Strong communication skills to effectively train, educate, and communicate safety protocols to diverse teams
Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus
Attributes:
Detail oriented with proficiency in preparing and maintaining accurate records and documentation
Ability to read and interpret government regulations
Works effectively across organizational boundaries and with all levels of the organization and stakeholders
Strong leadership and decision making capabilities
Coordinate many different administrative tasks; determine relative importance of each, set deadlines, prioritize and complete projects in a professional and timely manner
