Supervision Received:  Reports directly to the chair of Computer and Information Science

Supervision Exercised: None

Salary: $72,000.00 to $77,664.00 (Salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties:

The Department of Computer and Information Science at Westfield State University invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall of 2024. We seek an individual with energy, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to both teaching and advising students in our Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs. The selected candidate will teach important courses within our programs, provide advising and other services to our students, participate in meetings and events as a full time faculty member of our department. The teaching load is 12 credits per semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but not limited to:

Essential:

Knowledge and experience in the following areas: Data structures and algorithms, Software Engineering, Database management and application development, Web programming, and Computer Networking.

Knowledge and experience of the C/C++, Java and Python programming languages, which are used frequently in our program.

Comfortable teaching various classes to a diverse group of students with different backgrounds and learning abilities.

Act as advisor to a certain number of students enrolled in our programs.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a broad potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate degree in relevant field (ABD candidates will be considered)

At least 4 years of prior teaching experience in higher education

Industry experience with software development

Preferred Qualifications

At least 6 years of teaching experience in higher education with a proven record of high quality teaching

Experience of serving in any kind of leadership position within a computer science related department in a higher education institution

Additional Information:

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage .
