Objective: To operate a commercial motor vehicle to transport livestock in a safe, courteous and professional manner while complying with all applicable federal, state and local regulations as well as company policies and procedures to ensure the welfare of animals during loading, transportation and unloading.
Responsibilities:
Operate a company-owned commercial motor vehicle safely while abiding by all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Perform pre-trip or post-trip inspections as required by FMCSR regulation §396.11
Maintain and complete all paperwork in a timely manner including fuel reports, log books and bill of ladings
Follow Transport Quality Assurance and company guidelines for proper animal handling and biosecurity adherence during trailer preparation, loading and unloading of livestock
Communicate with manager and customers
Comply with FMCSR regulation §395.3 for maximum driving time
Comply with safety procedures and utilize Personal Protection Equipment when required
Maintain inside of tractor clean- windows cleaned (inside & out), pick up trash, keep dash clean
Installing, maintaining and monitoring trailer panels and plugs as well and proper amount of clean bedding
Skills Required: Operating a tractor/trailer on country rural roads or while in bad weather during hazardous driving conditions
Hook or unhook a semi-tractor/trailer unit
Backing a semi-tractor with 53' livestock trailer effectively to align squarely with a load chute
Knowledge Required: Federal, state and local regulations as it pertains to driving large commercial trucks
Physical Demands: Ability to sit and remain alert while driving an aggregate period of up to 11 hours
Properly enter and exit the vehicle cabs multiple times per day
Perform occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, climbing and ability to walk up an incline during loading and unloading of trailer
Handle equipment such as panels, paddles or shakers to move animals
Lift and pulling up to 75 lbs
Drivers may be subject to irregular work schedules
Drivers are required to answer their phones 24/7
Other Requirements: Class "A" Commercial Driver Licencse
Pass DOT Physical
Good driving record
Pre-employment drug screen and background check
