Summary:
Equal Hope is a nonprofit sitting on the Rush University Medical Center campus. Equal Hope’s mission is to save lives by eliminating health inequities. We do so by challenging the status quo--striving to understand the context of people’s lives and the barriers they experience, so we can help them achieve their best health and a longer life. Through research, quality assessment & improvements, advocacy, education, and patient navigation, we approach health holistically to achieve sustainable outcomes and true health equity.
We are looking to hire a dedicated Director of Health Research to manage Equal Hope’s Data Consortium and research initiatives. The Consortium is a healthcare collaborative, whereby through expert advisory committees, quality measurement and interventions are developed to improve the quality of care in Metro Chicago and in so doing are designed to reduce racial health disparities in cancer outcomes. The Consortium designs and implements performance improvement projects at institutions in Metropolitan Chicago. These projects are focused on meeting quality standards for cancer diagnosis and treatment while improving systems of referral to facilitate the timely care of individuals.
Responsibilities:
Job Responsibilities:
o Design hypotheses and lead studies (both quantitative and qualitative) to derive insights surrounding breast, cervical cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and other Equal Hope initiatives as assigned.
o Weave together qualitative and quantitative insights for data-informed, complete insights.
o Collaborate cross-functionally with Equal Hope executive staff, program managers and business partners to align research priorities.
o Manages Equal Hope’s research-focused team.
o Advises Equal Hope leadership and key stakeholders on project objectives; scope of work established; and, budget.
o Develops research agenda aligned with strategic priorities of Equal Hope.
o Identifies research gaps and leads on research proposals.
o Develops a strategic vision and implementation plan for the Data Consortium.
o Ensure accuracy, thoroughness, quality, and timeliness of projects.
o Designs, manages and evaluates study protocols, surveys, sample selection and analysis.
o Manages data collection of quality measures and care process data related to cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and primary care.
o Provides trainings, workshops, and communication to staff, stakeholders, and leadership on consortium activities.
o Provides leadership to managers and professional staff within a department to support teaching, health disparities research, and clinical care. Facilitates research initiatives of Equal Hope, allocates resources and executes strategic plans.
o Plans and supervises research projects
o Leads coordination and execution of project tasks
o Reports on project outcomes where appropriate
o Develop and maintain relationships with research leaders and organizations in the field.
o Gives voice to data and research through various mediums including speaking at professional conferences to advance Equal Hope’s mission, research, and initiatives.
o Publishes articles in journals that increase awareness of critical issues and research findings.
o Speaks to media regarding Equal Hope research.
o Works with the grants manager to manage grant applications and prepare required reports.
o Manages proposal library, funding opportunity resources and post award.
o Other duties as assigned

Required Job Qualifications:
• 4+ years’ experience with qualitative research methods and a Ph.D., or 10+ years with a MPH in epidemiology
• Expertise in qualitative research methods (e.g., individual and group interviews, diary studies, direct observation, think-aloud usability testing, persona development)
• Experience with quantitative research (e.g., survey design and analysis, sampling, and inferential statistics)
• Proficiency with Statistical Software such as SAS/SPSS or STATA
• Proficiency with Arc-GIS a plus
• Proficiency with creation and utilization of ACCESS databases a plus
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Excellent ability to strategize and to understand the healthcare system globally
• Excellent oral and written skills and have experience in reviewing and writing grant reports
• Experience with grant writing
• Excellent project management and project design skills are critical
• Experienced in literature review and manuscript preparation
• Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact with a wide range of health care professionals
