Job Description Job Description The Chief Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the entire hotel facility, including equipment, tools and facilities to ensure guest service and sustainability standards are achieved and maintained throughout the hotel. This includes oversight of construction, maintenance or repair activities in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, air conditioning/heating and landscaping areas. Manage duties and functions as it relates to decision making, organizing, planning, controlling, communicating and directing the Engineering department.
Core Responsibilities: Meet all operational standards related to the Engineering Department.
Conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the hotel structure, systems and equipment.
Establish and maintain Rooms and Public Area Preventive Maintenance Program and consistently keep updated records.
Act in concert with hotel management team and General Manager as well as ownership.
Hire, train, supervise, coach and counsel staff under its supervision.
Ensure grounds are maintained to create superior curb appeal.
Implement hotel’s safety and emergency policies and procedures (i.e., evacuations, first aid, etc.) to including removing all safety hazards, following company’s OSHA Hazcom program and safe lifting techniques.
Provide adequate inventory of parts, supplies, tools and materials for the department. Establish and maintain an efficient inventory and purchasing system.
Maintain current permits and licenses for building and physical plant.
Work and coordinate all activities, as needed, with 3rd party vendors, particularly those needed for physical plant and maintenance functions.
Run, maintain, and conduct the safety program, including meetings required filings and investigations.
Communicate with Housekeeping, Front Office Departments regarding guest rooms, requests, and maintenance requests/needs. Collaborates with all areas of the property.
Practice a culture of guest service in all you do; promote courtesy, good will and a positive attitude in each and every encounter. Ensure staff provides cheerful smart service daily.

Able to follow property safety and security procedures.
Perform other tasks any reasonable requests as assigned or directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies: Previous hotel engineering experience required, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen and general building construction
Vocational training, associate’s degree, certification and/or apprenticeship in one or more area; state certification or licensure where required
Must be able to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints. Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices
Strong business communication skills verbal and written
Strong presentation skills and ability to train hourly staff members
High work ethic and self-initiative
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Suite
Some travel may be required
Regular attendance according to established guidelines
May be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Knowledge of hotel operating systems preferred and/or ability to learn HMS
Understanding use of computer environment, tablets, mobile devices
Focus and maintain attention to multiple tasks and priorities, and complete work assignments on time despite frequent interruptions, including in high pressure situations
Ability to maintain excellent relationships with staff and maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times
Ability to converse calmly with upset associates, superiors and guests in intense emotional situations
Ability to participate in, and lead departmental and/or hotel team meetings
Understanding and adherence to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documents, as well as hotel safety procedures
Ability to maintain excellent relationships with staff and maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times
Physical Requirements: Sit, stand and walk for varying lengths of time
Lift approximately fifty (50) pounds
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening, and hearing ability and visual ability
Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line tone phone, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment as needed
Able to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines and work calmly under pressure
Know and be able to administer first aid
Direct evacuations in an emergency
Minimum Qualifications: Previous hotel engineering experience required, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen, and general building construction
Vocational training, associate’s degree, certification and/or apprenticeship in one or more area; state certification or licensure where required
Must be able to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints. Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices
Highschool degree, related degree preferred or equivalent work experience
Four years of engineering experience in a supervisory / managerial role
Hospitality experience strongly preferred
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Knowledge of hotel systems preferred
Excellent communication skills
Additional languages advantageous
