Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,300 - $117,000/yr.

Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $82,300 - $151,700/yr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: The position can be remote or based at one of several of the institute's campuses or associated research stations.

Working Days and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 - 5 (days and hours may vary)

The Earth Research Institute is an organized research unit whose mission is to support research and education in the sciences of our solid, fluid and living Earth. ERI fosters new multidisciplinary collaborations studying how Earth processes affect mankind and how mankind perturbs the Earth. Professor Alex Simms is the Interim Director of the unit. Seventy-three independent research groups and three centers conduct and administer their research using the facilities and resources of the Institute.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

The Resilience Institute Bridging Biological Training and Research (RIBBiTR) invites applications for a data manager toassist theinstitute'sresearchers indeveloping and managingworkflows forthecollection,sharing, and archivingofecological data. RIBBiTR is amulti-campus institute fundedby theNational ScienceFoundation Biology IntegrationInstitutes program, and is focusedon understanding factorsfacilitatingtheresilienceof amphibians in thefaceofemerging infectiousdiseasesandotherglobal stressors.Thisisa full-time,one-year position,withthepossibilityofup tothreeadditional yearspending satisfactoryperformance. Thepositioncan beremote orbased at oneofseveral of the institute'scampuses orassociated research stations. Working closely with researchers,thedatamanager will (1)developandmaintainrelational databases(PostgreSQL) to store collectedfield and laboratorydataandprovide access todatabasesviauser-friendlyclients(e.g.,Shiny app),(2)develop digital applicationsforthecollection offield and laboratorydata, (3)facilitate the use and sharing ofcollected dataamong theinstitute'sresearchers viatrainings, (4) assist researchers in developingreproducibleworkflowsandarchivingofcollecteddataand associated metadatainpublic and private repositories, and (5)assist withorlead analysis ofspecificRIBBTRdatasets and co-author scientific papers (depending on the applicant's biological and statistical expertise).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in natural sciences, computer science, or related field at time of application

A minimum of two years experience in data management, particularly in the natural sciences

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated proficiency in database design, database management, and data security.

Coursework in statistical analysis and experience analyzing ecological data.

Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems independently.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.

Interest in working with diverse teams of scientists to understand their data management needs and develop innovative solutions.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Order of Importance Function Duties % Time 1 Data Management

Develop relational databases (PostgreSQL) and graph databases (Neo4j) to store collected field and laboratory data. Provide access to databases via user-friendly clients. Develop digital applications for the collection of field and laboratory data. Assist with the archiving of collected data and associated metadata in public and private repositories.

70% 2 Training Work with researchers to develop reproducible research workflows that are consistent with Open Science principles. Facilitate the use and sharing of collected data among the institute's researchers via trainings.
