Sustainability Manager

Essential Functions :

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for warehouse operations, central processing, and recycling operations. Oversees the storage, movement, and processing of recyclable donated goods to generate recycle revenue. Oversees processing of donated goods in a warehouse environment. Leads the warehouse team effectively so that recycling revenue is maximized and trash/waste expense is minimized throughout the organization.

To lead recycling, warehousing, and central donation processing operations.

To oversee the recycling of commodities such as books, metal, wire, plastics, electronics, toys, computers, cardboard, etc. for revenue generation.

To centrally process donated goods for store setup and replenishment.

To hire, schedule, supervise, lead, and develop recycling and warehouse staff.

To hold staff accountable and take any necessary corrective action to ensure accountability and adherence to goals, policies, procedures, and direction.

To receive, store, process, and transport donated goods into and out of warehouse.

To oversee and maintain in good order the maintenance of machinery, and equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, tippers, and containers.

To work to minimize waste expense to the organization through recycle efforts.

To work to improve financial viability and sustainability of the recycle and warehousing departments by bringing new ideas and finding new opportunities.

To enforce and uphold organizational and departmental standards in regards to financial performance, quality of work, reliability, safety, and efficiency.

To read, interpret, distribute, and take appropriate action on financial reports, labor reports, maintenance reports, salvage surveys, etc.

To assist in the sourcing and development of salvage and recycling opportunities throughout the agency territory.

To interpret and uphold employer policies and enforce safety regulations.

To assist with preparation of department budget. Analyze, control and approve or arrange for approval of expenditures to conform to budgetary requirement.

Skills and Abilities: Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.

Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission.

Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with, and among, logistics personnel while motivating each to put forth their best effort

Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.

Must be able to work flexible hours on short notice, including nights and weekends, and occasionally long hours.

Must provide own transportation.

Must be able to lift up to 25#s frequently and up to 50#s occasionally.

Must be able to engage in prolonged standing and walking and in frequent bending, stooping and stretching.

Must exhibit proficiency in the use and operation of warehouse equipment to include pallet jacks, tippers, balers, and material handling containers.

Must be certified to operate a forklift or obtain certification within 90 days.

Must be able to function in a work environment with high stress.

Must have knowledge of salvage and recycle commodities such as textiles, shoes, electronics, books, plastic, glass, metal, etc.

Must exhibit good judgment and decision-making abilities.

Requirements: Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelors degree or certification in business, logistics, warehousing, or environmental studies preferred.

Five years of leadership experience in warehousing or logistics may be substituted for education requirement.

Requires five years of leadership experience directly supervising other workers.

Must maintain minimum automobile liability insurance as required by the State of Louisiana and be insurable through the Companys insurance carrier.

Must possess a valid drivers license and maintain current registration and state vehicle inspection.

Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel & Word.

Working Conditions:

Frequent physical exertion, exposure to unfit donated goods, materials and frequent travel throughout assigned territory. The ability to tolerate frequent periods of high stress, manage a heavy workload and multiple priorities. Unconditioned warehouse environment with forklift traffic, truck traffic, high noise level, and moving containers.
