JOB SUMMARY:
Provide technical support to the Special Programs Department and campuses on the use and implementation of the student management system, instructional technology and departmental technology needs. Provides leadership in technology and assistance to district special programs staff in planning and implementing technology integration in the classroom. Manage, support, and provide effective professional development to various technology systems that support these students. This position will facilitate the effective use of technology and support special programs initiatives. Research, identify, and communicate instructional curriculum resources, hardware, software, and applications toward departmental needs. Monitor usage and provide quarterly usage reports on technology software and applications.
Creates instructional opportunities that are adapted for diverse learners and the staff that works with them; and designs instruction based on the student's technology needs. Plan, develop, deliver and monitor comprehensive accommodations and services to meet the needs of students. This will include teaching students to utilize the adaptive technology that would be required by their individual education plan. Provide students with disabilities appropriate services and assistive technology tools designed to provide educational benefit in academic, emotional, communicative and/or social domains.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors required
Master's degree preferred
Valid Education Teaching certificate or Speech Language Pathology license
Minimum of five years teaching experience preferred
Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification/Credential or willing to obtain within a reasonable amount of time
Demonstrate knowledge of K-12 TEKS, curriculum resources, and technology used in education
Basic computer troubleshooting skills
Ability to use technology and software to support departmental needs
Knowledge of assistive technology tools and the use of assistive technology as a part of instruction
Skilled in data collection and formulating data reports
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to maintain complete and accurate documentation in the student data management system
Special Programs Department liaison to special education personnel in training and use of data management system
Generate and submit reports from the student data management system
Monitor and manage the migration and annual rollover of the student data management system
Train and collaborate with staff on the appropriate implementation of technology and computer programs
Provide follow up to teachers and administrators who participated in professional development
Train and collaborate with staff on the appropriate implementation and use of student data in making instructional technology decisions
Maintain Special Programs Website based on current legislative requirements
Create and design a monthly Special Programs Newsletter
Participates on District committees to advise on access to technology requirements and assists in the implementation of access needs within a comprehensive planning process
Maintain technology inventory database
Analyzes training agendas, training schedules, and evaluations to improve digital learning
Maintains records in learning management systems for professional and/or paraprofessional credit classes
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates working knowledge of current legislation, regulations, policies and ethical issues related to assistive technology
Understands the identification and eligibility of assistive technology process for assistive technology needs in collaboration with the evaluation team
Manage distribution and collection of assistive technology devices on campuses
Troubleshoot the equipment and send it in for repair as necessary
Maintain assistive technology inventory database
Assist and provide consultation with campus staff and other personnel in the implementation of assistive technology devices
Train and collaborate with staff on the appropriate implementation and use of data in making assistive technology decisions
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to work constructively within a team environment, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with the Executive Director for Special Programs, Special Programs Coordinators, administrators, evaluation staff, counselors, teachers, students and parents
Plan, implement, and coordinate professional development opportunities for staff and parents
Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures; support and implement program decisions
Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters
Support the goals and objectives of the district and follow district policies
Keep abreast of innovative practices
Model appropriate use of technology

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer, phone systems, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]
