Group/Division Summary

The Pharma Services Group (PSG) is an industry leader for drug development, clinical trial logistics and bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing to customers of all sizes through our Patheon brand. With more than 55 locations globally, we provide our clients with coordinated, end-to-end capabilities through all phases of drug development, including API, biologics, viral vector services, formulation, clinical trial solutions, logistics services and commercial manufacturing.

The Biologics Business Unit within Pharma Services is one of the fastest growing areas and focuses on providing development and commercial scale services including multiple mammalian cell lines, for biopharmaceutical and biosimilar products. There are currently four sites where services are provided including St. Louis, USA, Lengnau, Switzerland, Groningen, Netherlands and Brisbane, Australia.

This position is based remotely in the US. Travel expectation will be 50%, including both domestic and international.

Position Summary

The Director, Business Development reports to the Vice President Sales and will have a multi-faceted role in our organization leading the global Biologics sales team with responsibility for driving organizational growth. In addition, this role serves as the key liaison with the Thermo Fisher Bio Production organization to identify harmonies and implement joint strategies and initiatives. This role will be part of the global Pharma Services Sales Leadership Team and be responsible for integration/OneSource programs in conjunction with the Sales Leaders for Drug Product Services (DPS).

Key Responsibilities

Lead a global sales team through role model leadership, proactive performance management and coaching, and focused engagement to attract, retain and develop talent

Facilitate employee development including defining annual goals, objectives within assigned territories and targets, and career development activities

Work closely with Marketing and the business unit leadership to determine adequate and robust marketing actions to support sales.

Liaise with Commercial Operations Lead of the business unit to determine execution of tactics related to strategy

Liaise and advise Vice President of the business unit to determine strategic direction

Ensure active pipeline management including targeted prospecting activities in conjunction with marketing lead generation programs and development of new business including identification of opportunities with new clients through interaction with other PSG teams and following up on leads

Create and implement sales programs for new prospective clients to increase awareness of Pharma Services offerings and key differentiators from our competition

Identify and present Pharma Services' value proposition, including opportunities for strategic cross selling of PSG services.

Enable winning quotations and agreements with new and existing customers

Provide oversight of accurate quarterly revenue forecasts and budget related to new business at each customer and take strategic action.

Work with Sites to achieve excellent customer satisfaction

Manage the team to enable compliance with all relevant activities in the SalesForce.com database, and share information and background on prospective clients within the territory to team members

Provide input into critical initiatives including integrated and cross selling and potential M&A.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as micro-biology, cellular biology, and chemistry.

MBA and/or Advance Science Degree, preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years' experience in sales with a proven track record in sales including demonstrated consistent above plan performance.

Demonstrated leadership in coaching, mentoring, or leading teams.

Leadership experience in an aggressively growing business climate. Established contacts in major pharmaceutical organizations

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to lead a team with varied strengths across multiple territories

Professional presentation skills and ability to network, consult and influence senior leaders - demonstrates executive presence

Strong understanding of biologics, including but not limited to vaccines, blood, or blood components, allergenics, somatic cells, gene therapies, tissues, recombinant therapeutic protein, and living cells used in cell therapy.

Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

Strong project management skills with ability to lead short term deliverables concurrent with longer-term strategic achievements
