Software Engineer, Unified Metrics Platform

Sunnyvale, CA, United States

About The Team

The Unified Metrics Platform Team is a relatively new team that has taken on the charter of building a single source-of-truth internal platform for all business metrics at Doordash. This platform aims to unify multiple existing metrics systems which together offer a complex mix of overlapping and disparate features into a consistent offering that provides all necessary features that our customers need in a simple and intuitive manner. The goals of the platform are to standardize metric definitions, standardize access to metrics data for consumption as well as standardize metric computations across the full spectrum of batch to near real-time. Our customer personas include C-suite executives, business leaders and decision makers, product owners, analysts, data scientists, product engineers, data engineers, ML engineers, marketers, operators and many others. Their use cases span across experimentation, dashboarding, alerting and reporting among many others.

This team requires engineers with an exciting and dynamic mix of skills including customer-first product thinking, startup-oriented mindset and a knack for balancing velocity of development with solid engineering quality. The ideal engineer is able to prioritize ruthlessly, is creative in achieving maximum impact for minimum effort and understands how to build a platform that balances democratized feature sets with the right guardrails for governance. They should also be comfortable working with a wide array of cross-functional stakeholders and deeply understand stakeholder needs to inform product decisions.

We're Excited About You Because You Have…

B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent

Exceptionally strong knowledge of CS fundamental concepts and OOP languages

5+ years of fullstack industry experience (backend)

Located in the Bay Area or Seattle

Deep understanding of REST principles and experience working with and implementing backend APIs.

Experience with any of the “Big Data” technologies (e.g. Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, Mode, Segment, Spark etc.)

Prior experience coming up with product proposals, and then evangelizing and implementing them successfully is a plus

Prior experience building platforms that balance democratization with guardrails is a plus

Prior experience building metrics platforms is a huge plus
