**POSITION SUMMARY****:**
Pacific Oaks College is looking for qualified individuals to provide support and mentorship as thesis chair to students in the Master of Arts programs in the School of Human Development (HD. The thesis chair is a gatekeeper who ensures that a student meets personal, departmental, College, and even universal standards (such as APA). Further, the chair is responsible for promoting student learning. A thesis chair's commitment is for the entire period that the graduate student is enrolled in thesis classes. During this period, the chair will assess drafts of the thesis.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
* Be committed to the education and training of the graduate student as a future member of the research community by providing:
+ Consistent support for standards of rigor and academic conduct that model the best practices in research and scholarship in their discipline for the graduate student.
+ Timely feedback on the student's work to facilitate ongoing progress on the thesis. Feedback includes but is not limited to content of all chapters, research process, and current APA formatting.
+ A learning environment for graduate students that is intellectually stimulating and supportive.
* Provides guidance in the execution of research/project and encourages critical and independent thinking in research, project and activities such as Institutional Review Board (IRB).
* Provide weekly support for students.
* Assesses student work in a timely fashion and conveys feedback to students to facilitate ongoing progress on the thesis.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
**ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:**
* Be CITI Program Certified (free once a member of the Pacific Oaks College community).
* Have in-depth knowledge of qualitative research methodologies.
* Be familiar with IRB processes.
* Grade and provide feedback on all assignments within 5 days of the due date.
* Facilitate and participate in the weekly discussion postings.
* Actively respond to student emails and requests within 24-48 hours.
* Post final grades by the College deadline.
* Provide weekly announcements and overviews for each week of the course.
* Identify and refer at-risk students to academic support services.
* Participate in Adjunct trainings, meetings, events and other College requirements.
**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS****:**
* Hold a Doctorate in Human Development, Family Studies, Psychology, or related field.
* Experience with research development and data analysis.
* Demonstrated competency with academic writing, including current APA formatting and crafting literature reviews.
* Demonstrated post-graduate research experience.
* Communicate effectively using Canvas, Pacific Oaks College's learning management system.
* Proficiency in common internet tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
* Commitment to support the mission of Pacific Oaks College.
