The GovExec events team executes 250+ digital and in-person events each year.

GovExec Events seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and service-minded Director of Content to join our team and contribute to the growth, development, and production of a wide range of events for our editorial and white-label businesses - spanning federal, defense, and state and local government.

The Director of Content will join the GovExec Events team and manage a team of content writers and speaker bookers to further develop GovExec's events product suite and content strategy.

This is a hybrid role that requires the candidate to be based in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia.

Responsibilities

Oversee editorial and custom content programs and strategy

Coordinate with key editorial leaders from Nextgov/FCW , Defense One , Route Fifty , Government Executive, and Washington Technology to monitor editorial bandwidth, identify program topics and themes, and ensure editorial events support larger editorial strategy

Opportunity to moderate and host event programming

Scope out content direction, draft event descriptions and recruit speakers for large custom content and editorial programs

Support pre-event moderator and speaker prep via research and scheduling, as well as script writing and question development

Monitor trends in public sector content to inform event strategy and product development

Manage multiple direct reports, including potential to manage other managers

Work closely with direct reports to provide training, set priorities, gauge bandwidth, establish long-term goals, and work through project-specific problems

Lead the hiring, interview, and training process for new employees

Work closely with other events team leaders from Marketing and Program Management & Operations to set priorities across the events business

Amplify sponsor opportunities through collaboration with sponsor marketing and sales

Create sales materials around new and existing product types

Manage additional projects related to content team growth, staffing, and strategy

Able to travel 3-5 times a year, and staff in-person programs

Qualifications

6-8 years of experience in a similar role

Demonstrated experience in the public sector, political or media space

Strong media contacts across the public sector is a plus

Ability to forge strong relationships with speaker teams across the public sector

Strong writing, editing, and research skills in a fast-paced environment

Passion for managing direct reports and experience with managing team bandwidth

Proven track record collaborating across teams and divisions to maximize resources and impact

Ability to manage complex and fast-changing program elements and prioritize effectively in response

Persuasive communication skills and self-possession in presentation

Attention to detail in all areas of event execution

Flexibility and ability to navigate ambiguity or changing needs to deliver positive results

Entrepreneurial spirit, track record of initiative, high-quality service delivery, and ownership of work

Experience with client management and expectation-setting

Desire to streamline operations through process improvement

Confidence in presenting trends and strategies to internal and external stakeholders

Familiarity with project management platforms like Asana and Airtable

The compensation range for this role is $90,000 to $95,000 per year.
