Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Manager for Institutional Research, this position will work with administrators, faculty, and professional staff in IUI schools and academic programs in support of Vision 2030 and student success initiatives at the Indianapolis campus.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Provides statistical and analytical data support, helping constituents understand data for decision-making and planning.

Collaborates with decision makers throughout the institution to provide timely, accurate information to support and improve the functions of the university.

Provides accurate and timely data extracts, datasets, research, analysis, and visually appealing, interactive reports (using tools such as Tableau) to support decision making.

Gathers, analyzes, and presents data for internal and external audiences and verifies accuracy of reports.

Provides technical assistance in educational research, trend analysis, student success, and program evaluation analyses. Performs quality assurance checks on reports requested from external sources and developed for internal purposes.

Works in partnership with staff, faculty, and administrators from other academic, administrative, and support offices to identify appropriate information resources and ensure data are available to meet the strategic and institutional planning decision support needs.

Liaises with university departments to ensure proper and secure consumption of data and awareness of its existence. Maintains an understanding of departmental business practices as it relates to institutional data and how these business practices influence the analysis of the data. Monitors accuracy of data through standard current business standards.

Supports the mission of Institutional Analytics with continued focus on providing the highest level of service to our university partners and students.

General Responsibilities

Provides experienced analysis of existing data and data structures and satisfies ad-hoc reporting/analysis requests.

Creates reporting specifications for new reports/dashboards/analytical tools and performs testing/validation; ensures integrity, accessibility, and accuracy of reports/dashboards and data structures; reviews and approves user requests for access to reporting data and tools.

Consults with faculty and/or staff to identify new business reporting needs and provides guidance and interpretation of complex environments and data.

Documents data analysis efforts (data sources, reporting specifications, tools, issue/problem resolutions).

Performs experienced analysis to interpret and determine validity and quality of data.

Performs migration and conversion of data as needed in support of analysis efforts.

Researches and stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools and makes recommendations for implementation to improve data analysis services and approaches.

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science, information science, or related field.

Preferred Master's degree (preferably in computer science, information science, statistics, data science, social science, education science, or related field).

Coursework in statistics or demonstration of quantitative aptitude or training.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required 2 years of data analysis, reporting, or related experience.

Preferred

Experience with higher education data systems.

Experience with report, presentation, and visualization tools such as Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
