Who We Are: The News and Information section leads internal and external communications on behalf of SwRI, its broad technical programs, and its talented staff. Responsibilities include managing websites and magazines, press releases and media relations, events and tradeshows, social media, and more.
Objectives of this Role: Support the News and Information section of SwRI’s Communications Department, producing internal and external communications products that reflect SwRI and its staff members as leaders in contract research and development.
Support SwRI’s external communications efforts, to include writing press releases targeting the technical trades, producing content for corporate social media sites, producing and editing copy for use in promotional print and digital publications, and other duties.
Support internal communications programs, to include writing for the staff magazine, coordinating content for the intranet site, and other duties commensurate with experience.
Work with division clients to understand the significance of their research and development accomplishments and translate that work into products that are easily understood by multiple audiences, such as the technical trades, staff, and public.
Offer professional expertise and assistance to the media, public, and other audiences about SwRI’s technical programs, in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Collaborate with technical staff members to break down highly technical content for use in internal and external products.
Write technical and corporate news releases targeted to local and mainstream media outlets.
Use media industry tools such as the AP Stylebook, Cision, and Meltwater for news release creation, distribution, and monitoring.
Develop content daily for dissemination on SwRI’s social media sites.
Write general news articles for publication in the staff magazine or intranet.
Requirements: Requires a Bachelors in English, Journalism, Digital Media Communications, Public Relations, or related with related work experience
6-15 years: Excellent technical and creative writing, proofreading, and editing skills in a corporate environment
6-15 years: Knowledge of and experience with Associated Press Stylebook, Cision, Meltwater or similar media monitoring tools, as well as competence with Microsoft Office Suite and general office software
Ability to lead projects, including understanding the task, identifying objectives, and applying solutions, with minimal supervision
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure while remaining organized and detail oriented
A valid/clear driver's license is required
